Effective March 1, 2011 we will become the Department of Behavioral Health and Intellectual disAbility Services.

Effective March 1, 2011 the Department of Behavioral Health and Mental Retardation Services will become the Department of Behavioral Health and Intellectual disAbility Services. The term ‘intellectual disability' is the current terminology for what has been known as ‘mental retardation’ and is now commonly accepted by advocates, self-advocates and professionals.
