Recovery Specialist (Alcohol & Other Drug)

The Recovery Specialist is responsible for coordinating and providing a full array of outreach-based services for people seeking recovery. The Recovery Specialist assists individuals whose needs go beyond the scope of a treatment counselor, therapist, psychiatrist, or case manager. They will often serve as a role model, mentor, advocate and motivator to people in recovery in order to help prevent promote long-term recovery.

The essential responsibilities of a Recovery Specialist include:

  • Providing recovery education
  • Assisting people to assess their unique strengths and abilities
  • Help develop recovery plans, set goals and begin integration and transition back into the community
  • Empower people to become advocates for their own recovery
  • Improve access to professional assessment/treatment services
  • Identify community resources
  • Serve as a community liaison
  • Provide recovery planning
